Story #7342
Story #7342 It was another quiet night for Chris Whitley along the gloomy and dead-end streets of Baltimore. As usual, he was tired of being cooped up in his house on a weeknight with nowhere to go and nobody to see. It was the same old song and dance for the last two months since Felicity Chalmers dumped him. To be honest, he didn’t even know how he lasted as long with her as he did. Eight months of torture, and not the kinky kind some people got off to. Sure, the first two

Story #1178
Story #1178 Stacy Foster pulled up to the beach house in her pink convertible with her four friends: Aly, Veronica, Jake, and Eddie. They were all excited to spend the weekend there together, hanging out and enjoying the beach. Aly was the first out of the car, getting out of the passenger side. She touched up her long, straight, beautiful, flowing brown hair as she looked in the rearview mirror at her glowing face, then looked down to straighten her tight, slightly exposing

Story #5724
Story #5724 The night had become a victim of the vicious storm that showed no signs of slowing down or stopping. Rain came down hard, and thunder rumbled in the distance, getting closer despite no lightning. On the ground were five soldiers who had just broken into a secured area and now stood before a massive secret compound. The men didn’t flinch or move a muscle as they stood there and stared at the behemoth of a complex, wondering just what in God's name was going on here

Short Story #4417
Short Story #4417 The space center was busy as usual, with people constantly going in and out and walking to their workstations or sectors. Security watched as people showed their badges before coming in. For one man, it meant showing more than a badge. Ronald Akins showed his badge and was then escorted over to a small room where he awaited four of his colleagues. Ten minutes into waiting, a second man, Jason Jameson, was also shown to the same room. Five minutes after him,

Behind the Poem: The Clog
Behind the Poem: The Clog In my third Macabre Masterpiece book, Vile Humanity, I decided to get even more creative in my rhyme scheme and use more poetic tools. One poem in particular, The Clog, is unlike any other poem I have written before. Even though the poem is in Chapter 2, it was actually the first poem I wrote for the book, and I wrote it in a motel room after my mother and I had lost our home to a fire. The poem had no title when I started writing it, and it was orig

Behind the Poem: Hatter Splatter
Behind the Poem: Hatter Splatter In my second Macabre Masterpiece book, Repressed Carnage, I got a bit darker. Perhaps one of the strangest yet most profound poems in the entire book is in Chapter 3: The Morgue, which is entitled Hatter Splatter. The poem is by far one of the best poems I’ve ever written because the entire poem reads as one thing, but each line has entirely different underlying meanings. The title Hatter Splatter is a play on words of Helter Skelter, a song b

Story #3412
Story #3412 “I have a lock on the target” “Excellent. Take him out.” The man fires as the bullet travels a good distance away until it pierced the window, breaking it before finding its way into it’s targets temple. The man slumps forward in his seat as his head hits the table. “Target eliminated.” “Excellent, Agent Smirnoff. Check back into your room, and you will be rewarded.”, the man on the other end of his earpiece says. “Copied. Thank you, sir.” “No, Agent Smirnoff, tha

Behind the Poem: The Nightwatchman
Behind the Poem: The Nightwatchman In my first-ever book, The Macabre Masterpiece: Poems of Horror and Gore, I write many, and I mean many, poems that are downright horrific and creepy. However, the 44th poem, The Nightwatchman, not only deviates from these things but also tells an interesting story. One of the things that makes The Nightwatchman unique is its structure and rhyme scheme. Most poems in the book are between 12 and 16 lines on average and are all one continuous

#07826 Vincent DeForest walked out of the retail store where he worked. One of the few places remaining in the dying mall. He decided to walk around and kill some time before his ride came to pick him up, as he always did. The more he walked around the place, the more depressed he got. It was sad, he thought. In six years, the place had gone from booming to dead. Sure, there was a pandemic, and the economy has been awful over the last few years, but he couldn’t get over it an

An Ode To Poe
An Ode to Poe Edgar Allan Poe is without question one of the greatest writers of all-time. He is also one of my biggest inspirations that got me into writing. From Masque of the Red Death, The Tomb of Ligeia all the way to The Raven and among many countless others, Poe was a brilliant dark-minded individual who crafted heartbreak and suspense, two unlikely pairs and wove them into diabolical macabre tales that would have some proven effect on a reader. Poe was a mysterious an

Chernobyl: A Catastrophic Disaster
Chernobyl: A Catastrophic Disaster On April 15th, 1986, a nuclear reactor in Ukraine at Chernobyl exploded. The result in damages was catastrophic, with deaths in the thousands along with hundreds suffering from health complications. The people who worked there were told it would be safe and that there was no way any reactor would ever explode, but then one finally did. It was so bad that even after the fire was put out, the damage had been done. Many died either because of t

The Top 5 Best & Worst Horror Cliches
The Top 5 Best & Worst Horror Cliches Horror, like any genre, has many things that make it great and many things that make it bad. Also, like any genre, it has its cliches; tropes, plots, or scenarios that have been overly done to the point that they are obvious and, at times, just plain awful. However, there are just as many good cliches as there are bad, so when it comes to my opinion on horror cliches, I’ve devised a list of the top five best and worst. Top 5 Best: 5. The

Showdown of Death: Duels in the Wild West
Showdown of Death: Duels in the Wild West There are many ways to die in the West, but none are more common than the old-fashioned duel. When two men are usually fifteen paces away from each other and then stare each other down until the first one to draw and fire their gun is the victor. Dueling was the common way to settle disputes in the Wild West, but this era was certainly not the first to adapt such a practice. The art and concept of dueling itself dates back a few centu

The Horrors of the Civil War Part 2: The Aftermath
The Horrors of the Civil War Part 2: The Aftermath The aftermath of the Civil War is known today as Reconstruction. It was a time when, as a nation, we tried our best to piece the country back together after the battles had been fought. The hardships faced were of all levels; physical, emotional, and mental. Did we have a future to look forward to as a nation? Yes, but the idea was buried under tainted land and massive amounts of dead bodies. It was up in the air as a cloud o

The Horrors of the Civil War Part 1: Bloody Battles
The Horrors of the Civil War Part 1: The Bloody Battles The Civil War was one of the most gruesome blemishes in our history. It marked a time that we were so divided as a country that rather than try to come to a reasonable compromise, we went to war and fought each other, spilling so much bloodshed at the end that it felt like neither side had truly won. Any reason for a war is both complicated and unnecessary, but in this case, it truly showed the flaws and gaping holes we

A Little History in High Stakes at the Bonesaw Saloon
A Little History in High Stakes at the Bonesaw Saloon. I'm no stranger to setting my western horror novels after the Civil War, but I am a stranger to talking about and referencing the Civil War in detail in them...until now. For High Stakes at the Bonesaw Saloon, it takes place just two years after the Civil War, which means it was still very fresh in people's minds, especially those who survived it. So to add a little history to the book and to make it feel a bit more authe

Were Small Western Towns Doomed To Become Ghost Towns? Old western ghost towns still exist. They are fun little places to travel to and check out to make you feel like you're in an old western movie or even back in the Wild West. But have you ever thought to yourself as to why the town still exists and why it became abandoned and turned into a ghost town? Small western towns were a dime a dozen during the Wild West, meaning they could be just as easily built as they were dest

Wild West Greed: Why Gold and Money Was the Root of All Evil. Gold. What started as ore and rock in cavern walls became powdery flakes and eventually bars. For centuries, humans have been fascinated by gold and all its properties, but, more importantly, by the wealth it can bring them. During the Wild West Era, it was no different, but in many ways exaggerated to the highest degree. Cowboys from Alabama through Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, even up through Kansas, and all the w

My First Book: The Macabre Masterpiece
My First Book: The Macabre Masterpiece Back in 2010, I decided that I wanted to write a book. Since I started writing poetry in high school, I figured that would be a great place to start. I sat down at my kitchen table and went over the horror poems I had already written, then wrote more until I had a solid 50. Then came the planning of 5 chapters, 10 poems per chapter, and which poems would go where. After the organization, it needed a title. After at least ten minutes tryi

Horror Movie Remakes & Reboots: Yay or Nay?
Horror Movie Remakes & Reboots: Yay or Nay? Reboots. Most of us can’t stand when a movie is remade, either because the original doesn’t need to be remade or because Hollywood is getting lazy and can’t think of new material. Sadly, while it is both of these its much more the second than anything. Producers and directors tend to think of ideas that have already been created, and rather than try to build off them, they just decide to redo the actual film itself. This is a big is
