A Little History in High Stakes at the Bonesaw Saloon.

Image of a battle during the Civil War

I'm no stranger to setting my western horror novels after the Civil War, but I am a stranger to talking about and referencing the Civil War in detail in them...until now. For High Stakes at the Bonesaw Saloon, it takes place just two years after the Civil War, which means it was still very fresh in people's minds, especially those who survived it. So to add a little history to the book and to make it feel a bit more authentic, I gave three characters backgrounds as having served in the war, and they discuss their time and even mention battles they fought in. Below, you will find a list of the battles in which my characters fought in, as well as the dates of them and who won.

The #CivilWar Battles mentioned in High Stakes at the Bonesaw Saloon:

Battle of Glorieta Pass(Mar 26th-28th,1862): Dixon Laremy, Lavinia's late father, fought in and was killed during this battle. Union Victory.

Battle of Baxter Springs(Oct 6th,1863): Elijah Cutter fought in this battle as one of Quantrill's Raiders. Confederate Victory.

Battle of Chancellorsville (Apr 30th-May 6th,1863): Mr. Bardot fought in this battle, serving under Robert. E Lee. Confederate Victory. *This was the battle Stonewall Jackson was wounded in, from friendly fire, resulting in his left arm being amputated. He died eight days later of pneumonia.

Battle of Laredo (March 18th,1864): Elijah Cutter and Alister Drearden fought in this battle. Confederate Victory.
